Phenomenon, A site presenting the minds and mentality of killers (Might even give you an insight as to "why")
Accurate? Up to interpretation. Free to use? Credit your sources. Why are some ages not listed? Some out lived the day of their atrocity.
As a child, Adam seemed quite avoidant to touch and was seen as a quiet kid. His OCD and Aspergers Syndrome did not help him during key development periods of his life. Exposed to guns and weapons from a young age, this seemed to have possibly kick started his morbid interests early. As he grew, he became a man in sympathy and understanding for pedophilia, believeing that there are good sides to it that society refuses to explore due to its tabooness. Staying in his room and never really leaving towards the end of his life as his mental health seemed to worsened only tightened the exit point he had deemed as a worthy escape: Suicide. In his mind, commiting a shooting against students would save them from a life of suffering ahead, because he thought that suffering is life affirming. Hence taking the lives of many would also provide the only viable outcome of suicide, since jail and other prosecutions just seemed worse. This viable outcome being shooting himself after committing the school massacre. It should also be noted that at the age of 14, Adam was withdrawn from all medications, psychiatric assistance, and school. Leaving him completely up to the care of his mother, who seemed to have issues herself. He was practically isolated at this age.
Eric Harris seemed to carry a facade of politeness, quietness. He believed himself to be superior among his classmates just because he possessed an absolute view and a want to kill others which provokes a sense of power. Eric believed heavily in natural selection, often seeing people around him who are different, leading him to write diary entry after diary entry on how they are inferior and deserve to die. His final journal entry consists of him cussing out his peers for seemingly always leaving him out, and angrily writing about how he thinks people perceived him as the weird kid. Despite his apologetic attitude when he filmed himself in his car near the date of the shooting, the recording ending with silence then him begging to softly cry: he was still an angry, homicidal, casted out kid with easy access to guns and bombing material, and a suicidal friend to feed rage off of who was ready to die with him, hence; the one and only shooting of Columbine High School. It should also be noted that Eric had been prescribed antidepressants, signifying a recognition in possible issues with his mood and or regulation of emotions.
Dylan was often described as a tall, kind, and reserved man. He was a bright child, showing signs of being gifted from a very young age. He liked doing things for himself and would often hide his issues until they were unbearable. His diaries point towards suicidalness as the reason most likely as to why he was willing to commit the shooting, that and his seemingly broken morality and an angry homicidal friend willing to die with him. Dylan had a disdain for the jocks at his school, and pretty much every person who had bullied him and or mocked him at school. This anger towards those people is also what fueled him on the day of the shooting. Despite hiding it well, his diaries told the anger that was truly building up over the years, that and his suicidalness and love for certain girls. He was a sad individual, trying his best to hide his internal suffering from his family, just waiting for the day he could end it all.
Dylann Roof who has not been described as the brightest in school during the time he attended before dropping out, had a very absolute view about race. After viewing a certain case where a black man targeted white men, Dylann began to have a hatred for black people, saying how the black on white crime is immense and must be stopped. He took matters into his own hands due to thinking no one else was going to do anything, hence why he shot up and African American Church. It should also be noted that Dylann pursued his Racism and research in racist items to an autistic degree, having no connection or nothing else in his day besides what he read on the internet. To paraphrase, Dylann once responded to a coworker asking if he really did nothing at home to which he said: No, I literally look at the walls (Dylann Roof). This signifies he truly had nothing else going on in his life besides his pursuit in extreme views.
A high school drop-out whos argument with his grandmother turned into him shooting her in the face, then stealing her car to go onto fire at those coming out of a funeral home, and then an elementary school. He died due to being shot by the police who took their sweet time ending the situation. He was often described as a disturbed young man, a loner with few friends. Salvador would torture small animals and cats, even live streaming his doings. He was bullied for being in poverty, and having a stutter with a lisp. In his last hours of life, he posted online how he wanted to kill his grandmother, and wanted to shoot a school, then following through on these desires.
His fathers physical and verbal abuse towards him and his mother causing them to split would be the first traumatic event in Vladislavs childhood. In his schooling days, Vladislav was socially awkward and had few friends. He liked weaponry items and it was considered an interest of his. This later stemmed into him taking an interest in explosives. His aggressive moments in school were not really taken into account, no more than a slap on the wrist. A schoolmate of his collected how Vladislav hated his school and wanted to take revenge on his teachers. Vladislav felt as though he had lost faith in people due to their unkindness towards him. Discussing nihilistic views and his purposelessness of a life. It is speculated that he was an admirer of the Columbine school shooters, even shooting himself in the end the same way as the Columbiners once he decided after his act of violence that it was time to kill himself.
While stating to the police that he thought committing an act of mass violence using a firearm would be a waste of time to him, he still ended up following through as time passed. It is believed what he did was an act of suicidal murder, killing and then killing himself to be with his beloved cartoon character from My Little Pony. He was obsessed with My Little Pony and stated in the few hours left of his life, that if he cannot be with Apple Jack in the afterlife, then his life served no meaning. He was an anxious and autistic individual, as identified from a young age. And as he grew into his teenage years, he became increasingly suicidal, later then becoming abusive to his mother as well. Nervously before the day of the act, he told the police who came to his home to turn off his computer which is when they found a prominently white supremacist website on his computer.
Elliot Rodger perceived himself as magnificent, kind, well dressed man. He always wanted friends but struggled constantly to make friends. He would change aspects of his life ever-so often in hopes of attraction people or even a girlfriend, but he would never go out of his way to interact with others, expecting them to make the first move. He had been prescribed antipsychotics in the past, signifying some kind of personality and or mood issue. His early adolescence was disturbed by his parents divorce, which then caused further issues to Elliot. He felt the need to kill those around him due to his views being that humans are depraved creatures, that must die. He labeled himself as an incel, further signifying that his inability to attract a women was an apparent issue to him. Elliot Rodger, a man struggling with mental illness for a long time, was racist, misogynistic and extremely lonely. He often viewed himself as better than other men, even calling himself a god at times. His exhausting manifesto and true motives can easily be found online through what he wrote himself. It is also clear by his speech and mannerisms and social interactions or lack-thereof that Elliot has some form of Autism. Many speculate and have even stated he had been diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome, which affects how one may speak, interact or how they perceive the world.
Tamerlan, A man not afraid to turn to violence as an answer to stick up for his loved ones, and yet also not afraid to hurt those who he onced loved. Not only were his actions extreme, but so were his views, as told by his extremist Muslim side. As his views became more and more extreme with each piece of information he decided to use in his life, it was only a matter of time before he did something related to terroism. The fact that a goal of his, involving boxing had changed policy to no longer allow non-citizens, just gave him no more reasons to stay out of trouble.
Dzhokhar, A Chenchen man assisting his brother in bombing a massive event as partly inspired by a key organizer of a terrorist group, Anwar al-Awlaki. When he was young, his family moved around a lot. People have described Jahar (Dzhokhar) as a puppy, who follows his brother around. Dzhokhar went by the name Jahar to not have himself appear related to the background that he was. He was accepted greatly by his peers, and assimilated well into the culture around him. Many considered him a normal person, but one who did not engage in politics. He did not seem like the type of person to go and blow up a historically patriotic event.
In the days of elementary, Nikita was an amazing student who had many interests to partake in. This all changed around the fifth grade however. It is said that students around him did not except him, and only after falling into a deep state of depression and finding Artyom Anoufriev that he was truly able to finally entrust his emotions with someone, albeit that person only ever being Artyom. Nikita lost most of his friends due to Artyom not being the friendliest, but the boys did not care, they had each other. Nikita however, became more closed off in school, which caused other kids to bully him, especially since he did not fight back. While it is seen that Artyom killed because he did not care about anyone except Nikita, it was Nikitas idea to kill in the first place.
When Artyom was young and sometimes in trouble at school, his own mother encouraged him to be confrontational, possibly even encouraging violence. This led to a teacher quitting because he refused to have to teach Artyom in his class. It can be said that Artyom had a difficult childhood, especially psychologically. He was an outcast in school, and in his senior class, creating a final film about happiness, he stated that he does not know what happiness is but wants to find it quickly. While still a teenager, him and Nikita Lytkin committed a series of attacks resulting in six deaths and nine others injured. Artyoms mother expressed not wanting Artyom to be friends with Nikita. It was Artyoms apparent involvement with a skinhead group that drove him to commit murder, that and apparently not caring about anyone.
From having severe anxiety and depression from a young age, to his selective mutism which was a physical manifestation of his anxiety, Cho was not very well in his prime stages of development. Writing essays and being overall quite interested in the Columbine school shooters, he himself wanted to carry out acts just like them one day. He was seen as a loner by classmates and was often seen writing about gorey topics like death. Accused of behavior like stalking and being odd towards females in his class, Cho was dealt with by the police, which seemed to be an event that scarred him as he expressed wanting to end his life due to this experience. His note left the sentence “You Caused Me to Do It”(Seung-Hui Cho), and his manifesto found in the package he mailed in between the shooting contained over 1,000 words about his anger and wanting to level the playing fields for those who have wronged him, aka get revenge on them.
A man so disillusioned with a world he created based on his favorite cartoon character, believing that after dying he would change into one of the characters in his world. Randy Stair, who went by Andrew Blaze due to hating his birth name, believed he was destined to die. His fate, his purpose, was to die and join the realm where he would be one of the girls in Ember’s Ghost Squad, a made up alternative universe that he created based off of Ember from Danny Phantom. He used the best of three in a coin flip to decide if he would die at his home alone, or go to the supermarket and take down others with him. From more than just a crush on Ember from Danny Phantom, to his creative passion to bring his visions to life, he not only created his own animated series and acting skits for youtube, but he eventually lived out what he believed to be his true purpose in life, to die. He left behind tapes depicting his thoughts and scorn for the world, also keeping a written diary where he wrote down his anger, similar to the Columbine shooters he was inspired and very much interested in them once his interest in morbidity bloomed due to a small amount of people close to him sadly passing and then him himself almost getting hurt in a car accident. His belief that he is a girl trapped in a males body also caused scorn for him as he knew he could never truly live as a girl and would just have to suffer as the male he is until death. This seems to have tormented him quite a bit.
He was severely bullied, and at one point even stabbed during a class. He was described as a shy yet kind kid by someone who had taken a class with him. Dressing in a trench coat at school and having a stutter once again provoked bullying. It was reported that William showed up to school with self inflicted burn marks on his skin. It is perceived that he had an interest in the Columbine shooting, hence his trench coat and then a following suspension for writing the school shootings timeline on a whiteboard in school. White supremacy, mass violence and racism were prominent themes in a lot of his online posts over the years. He also has stated on some occasions that females do not deserve the rights to freedom that they have now. He stated that he wakes up as a miserable hateful man. He had no idea what to do with his life. And his troubling behavior was even noticed by his family to an extent. His admiration for past school shooters, and his obsession with extreme violence was severely apparent through his online presence. His online presence however, also shows how alienated he felt from the rest of the world.
With being diagnosed with Antisocial personality disorder around his teenage years, previously molested on multiple occasions, and bouncing around homes due to parental issues, not to add the abuse he suffered from his guardians, this was a recipe for a troubled and unempathetic man. He liked drawing swastikas and had a heavy interest in satanism. When threatened with being institutionalized by his doctors for not wanting to apologize to his step mother Kandice for all the things he said when angry, he said he would burn the institution down. Stated by Robert, the time when he was in a foster home with dozens of other kids, failing high school and robbing gas stations was the best time of his life. His birth mothers rejection caused him to look into meth from his anger. Finally being let go as a free man by the court, only a year later he would commit a public shooting and then kill himself so he would not have to burden those around him anymore. During the few months left in his life, he was extremely depressed and turned to his birth mother again. He was apologetic towards his loved ones right before the shooting, and just seemed miserable and that he wanted to be gone, even though things were going slightly well despite his mood darkening from his previous arrest.
Trey Sesler was seemingly a man who was given too much freedom to live on his own while having quite a tense amount of anxiety and access to firearms. Before the murders, Trey would go around shooting small animals to animals as big as live stock, but he would get paranoid of getting caught hence why for a while he had a gun set up to fire when his bedroom door was opened. He soon disabled this system incase his parents were to visit and accidentally get shot. It was clear he had an obsession with events like the 1999 Columbine school shooting and 2007 Virginia Tech shooting. After shooting his family members, he wrote on the walls of the home that he loved his family, and could never forgive himself. He seemed too remorseful to continue his plan to then go on to shoot up a school, and turned himself in. He killed his family because he did not want them to see him commit a mass shooting, even though he ended up not going through with the public shooting.
